The short version
- Offload is free. There are no adverts, and your data is never sold or shared for marketing.
- It's stored in the EU (Ireland).
- I don't look at what you add. As with any app, the person running it can technically reach the database, so I'm working on making the contents of your tasks unreadable even to me.
- Your partner sees what you share, never your private tasks or unsorted notes.
- You can download everything at any time, and ask for it all to be deleted.
Who runs Offload
Offload is run by Johnny Gedye, an individual in the UK. That makes me the "data controller" for your information. For anything about your data, email jonathan.gedye@gmail.com.
What's stored
| What | Why |
|---|---|
| Your email and password | To sign you in. Your password is stored scrambled (hashed); nobody, including me, can read it. |
| Your first name and your household's name | So the app can say who did what. |
| Your settings | Quiet hours, check-in time, time zone and travel time zone, so reminders arrive at sensible times. |
| What you add | Tasks, notes, areas and their notes, templates, repeating tasks and check-ins. This is the app. |
| History | Who took on, handed over or finished what, and when. It powers the balance view and the check-in. |
| Notifications | An address for each phone you turn notifications on for, and the messages waiting to be sent to it. |
| Technical logs | Kept by the hosting services below for security and fixing problems, including IP addresses. They're deleted automatically after a short time. |
Offload never guesses things about you, and it doesn't use AI on what you write.
Who can see it
- Your partner sees what you share in your household. Private tasks and unsorted notes are only ever shown to you. This is enforced by the database itself, not just by the screens.
- Me: I don't look at your household's contents. I only see what's needed to keep Offload running, such as how many people use it, or an error when something breaks.
- Nobody else, apart from the services below, which handle data only to run Offload.
Services that help run Offload
- Supabase: the database and sign-in. Your data is stored in the EU (Ireland).
- Vercel: hosts the app and counts page visits anonymously, without cookies.
- Resend: sends account emails, such as password resets. Offload doesn't send marketing emails.
- Apple, Google and Mozilla: their push services deliver notifications to your phone. The contents are encrypted on the way, so they can't read them.
- Google Fonts: supplies the app's typeface, so your browser contacts Google when it loads.
Some of these companies are based in the US. Where your data leaves the UK or EU, it's covered by their data protection agreements.
Cookies and phone storage
Offload uses no tracking or advertising cookies. It stores a few things on your phone only to work: keeping you signed in, an invite code until you've used it, and whether you've dismissed the install tip. That's why there's no cookie banner.
Why it's allowed (the legal bit)
Under UK data protection law (UK GDPR), I use your information to provide the app you've signed up for, and in my legitimate interest in keeping it secure and working.
How long it's kept
- Everything is kept while you use Offload.
- If you leave your household (Settings, then Account), your private tasks and notes are deleted straight away. Shared tasks stay with your partner, and the history keeps your name.
- To delete your account and everything about you, email me. It's done within 30 days, and any backup copies expire shortly after.
Your rights
- Get a copy: Settings, then "Your data", downloads everything you can see. Or email me.
- Correct it: change anything in the app, or ask me.
- Delete it: email me, as above.
- Object or ask questions: email me. I'll reply within a month.
- Complain: if you're not happy with my answer, you can contact the Information Commissioner's Office at ico.org.uk.
Children
Offload is for adults running a home. It isn't meant for anyone under 18.
Changes
If this page changes, the date at the top changes too. Anything that affects how your data is used will be shown in the app first.
